Caulfield Review – August 31

Race 1 – Symo’s 50th Handicap (2400 METRES):

FOLLOW: None. Blinkers off and a cold steer did the trick with Another Coldie (1st) on the seven day back-up but it appeared as a bit of a nothing race going in and I’m still suspect on it overall.

FORGIVE: Alfarris – 3rd. Gate 1 became a problem when the pressure came on initially as he couldn’t go with the first two who were building momentum earlier whilst he had to bide his time and wait to get off heels at the top of the straight. Was only second up and rising from a mile to 2400m. He’s the likely improver out of the race.

FORGET: US Army Ranger – last. Admittedly against the pattern of how this turned out but was beaten well before you could excuse it with that and hasn’t fired a shot from four Australian starts.


Race 2 – Nitto Denko Handicap (1200 METRES):

FOLLOW: Dawn Dawn – 1st. Three wide without cover throughout but was kept comfortable in transit by Dunn and was still the strongest on the line here second up. Only a BM78 win but the form around Easy Eddie who she belted last winter suggests she can get black type if kept sound.

FORGIVE: Chess Star – 4th. Easy late in the betting first up and hadn’t raced since December last year. Clearly short of a gallop but was inconvenienced slightly by Goddodin when l…
