AS is usual for Perth racing these days, local leading owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Peters hold the key to this year Group 2 G1X.com.au Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot on Saturday.
The Peters are chasing their sixth Perth Cup and their famous cerise and white colors will be worn by the jockeys of four of the 16 starters—the classy mares at the head of the weights, Delicacy and Real Love, up-and-coming mare Neverland and the 5YO gelding Respondent.
The Peters won last year’s Cup with Real Love, a 4YO mare (now 5) trained by Adam Durrant, who also trains Respondent. Grant Williams, who won the 2012 Perth Cup for Peters with Western Jewel, will saddle Delicacy and Neverland.
The Peters also won Perth Cups with Lords Ransom (2010—trained by Durrant), Crown Prosecutor (2005—Lindsey Smith) and Field Officer (1993—Alan Mathews).
