Corey Brown has revealed he had no plan heading into Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben - a race he won aboard smartly-bred colt Impending, handing interim Godolphin trainer Darren Beadman a maiden victory at the top level.
Brown was set a task in the $1.5 million feature, with Impending drawn out in gate 13 in the 16-horse field.
Speaking on ‘Correct Weight’ on Melbourne radio station RSN927 on Sunday morning, Brown said: “I drew bad, I drew the car park basically all day, especially in the G1s.
“I said to Darren (Beadman) in the morning, ‘I know it sounds really silly, but ‘I’m going to go out there with no plan whatsoever, I’m actually going to go out there and hope’."
After racing wide in a midfield position, Brown had plenty of horse underneath him as the runners rounded the home turn.
