Ben Sporle has lofty ambitions.
He’s dreamt of calling a Melbourne Cup ever since he was knee-high to a grasshopper.
As a youngster, Sporle could be found riding his bike around the streets of Bendigo in regional Victoria calling phantom races.
He loved it. He still does.
Sporle is well aware he has a massive mountain to climb before he finds himself with his binoculars in the caller’s box at Flemington, but he’s up for the challenge.
Calling Group 1s at headquarters remains the goal, but for now, honing his skills on the Victorian picnic circuit will do just fine.
Sporle, the digital and content coordinator at the Moonee Valley Racing Club, will tonight be at Cranbourne, where he will broadcast the Victorian Picnic Racing Grand Final.
“I’m pumped. I’m really grateful for the opportunity. This is the third time I’ve done it now,” Sporle told G1X.com.au.
