If her debut performance is anything to go by, Ben Currie’s two-year-old filly Crusher is appropriately named.
A daughter of champion sire Snitzel, Crusher absolutely blitzed her rivals at her first start at Toowoomba on December 31, winning the 1000m 2YO Handicap by six lengths.
Crusher has been off the scene since her New Year’s Eve annihilation, but returns to racing in metropolitan grade at the Gold Coast on Wednesday, where she will contest another 2YO Handicap, this time over 900m.
“She’s a very fast filly; we’ll limit her to 1000m races,” Currie told G1X.com.au.
“She’s had two jump outs and come on nicely since her debut.”
Out of the Flying Spur mare Rock Idol, Crusher was knocked down to Currie for just $45,000 at last year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale - quite cheap for a Snitzel.
“She’s only small, but she X-rayed well,” Currie explained.
Leading local hoop Jeff Lloyd has the sit on Crusher, which is the pre-race favourite with Ladbrokes at $2.50.
