He kicked off his return in the opener with a hard fought victory aboard the $1.75 favorite Cormac but he wasn't finished there with the comeback hoop securing a double for Chris Waller at Warwick Farm today with Monasterio ($8.50) driving home for a narrow victory in the ATC Honours Flying Spur Mile (Race 5).
"My legs are a bit jelly. I didn't need a tight finish to start the day," McDonald replied when speaking to Sky Thoroughbred Central after the first winner.
"It's probably been well-documented over the last week how much I've matured."
James also managed a third placing on a pick up ride with outsider Tarka ($21) enjoying an economical run in the second race and running a drum.
McDonald has a full book of rides in his return to Saturday metropolitan racing which includes engagements for Chris Waller, Gerald Ryan and the Snowden's for the 9 race card from Rosehill. He will also be at Kembla Grange tomorrow with rides in each of the quaddie legs.
