Trainer Danny O’Brien has launched a blistering attack on Racing Victoria and its integrity department following the decision to seek leave to appeal the cobalt finding that cleared himself and Mark Kavanagh.
O’Brien wrote to his owners on Thursday night, spoke on radio station RSN Friday morning and also to G1X.com.au to deliver a clear message about his thoughts on racing, governance and integrity in Victoria.
If his outspoken comments on the steps of the Victorian Civil And Administrative Tribunal - where he called the Chief Steward Terry Bailey a liar and claimed bullying and vilification from RV, were harsh enough, today’s epistle continues his charge.
RV announced last Thursday it was seeking leave to appeal the VCAT findings of Supreme Court Judge Justice Greg Garde at the Court of Appeal.
“What needs to be done is Racing Victoria to show some leadership and ask how stewards broke the rules and why they broke the rules in our case,” O’Brien told G1X.com.au
“It was a fatally flawed process from the start that eventually led to the testing conducted that produced the positive swabs to be ruled inadmissible by a Supreme Court judge.”
But why now Danny? Why make these comments today?
O’Brien described Victorian racing as in a ‘parlous state” and the issues started at the top.
