Race 3 - (1300 METRES) - ASTERIUS - 2nd. Trainer: Chris Waller.

The drop from 1500m to 1300m third up simply didn't suit after his barnstorming second up win but back up in distance next start, he wouldn't have lost any admirers via this closing effort behind an in-form winner that run it to suit. A lightly raced 4yo who's still got upside, he's returned in very good order following a summer preparation that didn't quite work out.

Race 5 - (1800 METRES) - MISTER BELVEDERE - 4th. Trainer: Maher & Eustace.

Import who was a nice Australian debut winner at Cranbourne carrying 60kg and whilst not as brilliant here with the class rise, he grinded home well from well back in a decent little field where we he was flatter second up. Most of his overseas form is around 2400m and doesn't appear to want it wet so there was merit to this effort and he'll have plenty of options going forward.

Race 7 - (1500 METRES) - ZAVANCE - 5th. Trainer: Peter & Paul Snowden.

Put the writing on the wall late second up and just one run short here where again was left a little flat footed when the sprint went on, but loved how she picked up late in a blanket finish. Only a 3yo filly with a rating of just 69 so for now, she'd be better suited dropping in grade and stepping up to a mile where she's ready to win.

Race 2 - (1500 METRES) - PAT'S NIPPER - 5th. Trainer: Cody Morgan.

Finished off well to place fresh at Newcastle and with any luck in running here, he probably win this. Forced to ride for luck after settling at the rear, he was on Pinch Passion's heels when the inside run closed, forced to come wider and was still held up at the 100m. Nice effort but I doubt he'll be double figure odds next start.

Race 6 - (2400 METRES) - YOGI - 2nd. Trainer: Maher & Eustace.

Has a habit of running a big race fresh and is another that can count himself unfortunate not to have prevailed. Always hits that flat spot early which makes him perhaps a little tricky to ride however should have been wound up earlier where he would have had the eventual winners back at the top of the straight.

Race 8 - (1200 METRES) - DRACHENFELS - 6th. Trainer: Bjorn Baker.

On heels late where he went to the line untested which followed a nightmare watch fresh but is clearly going well for Bjorn Baker. Looking for 1200m-1300m now and if he can get into one of them at BM78 level with a claim, he'll go close.

Race 2 - (1500 METRES) - GALAPAGOS - 8th. Trainer: Cody Morgan.

Looked an absolute moral on form dropping back to a Highway fourth up after placing behind Kolding and Quackerjack but had his chance if good enough and was pretty plain late. Finds ways to not win irrespective of where they place him.

Race 5 - (1800 METRES) - HOGMANAY - 11th. Trainer: Chris Waller.

Did some work early but was entitled to finish off much better than that. Rating is down so he can drop in grade but I'm not sure he's going well enough anyway and there's no upside with him.

Race 6 - (2400 METRES) - TAMARACK - 8th. Trainer: Joseph Pride.

Had the gun run in transit, was fit with a 2400m race under his belt third up and failed to quicken at any stage. Out of his depth at listed level but isn't getting all that easy to place now and has gone backwards since the big fresh win at Hawkesbury.
