That combination did the trick with Impending last Saturday, and those names and that same gate number (prior to emergencies coming out) may just do the same for Federal, at Ipswich this weekend.

Both Federal ($12) and Handfast ($21) compete in the Listed Ipswich Eye Liner over the 1350m, with the run to be their third straight against one another this campaign.

“They’re like peas in a pod lately. They’ve gone around in the same races at their past two runs and haven’t been too far from each other,” Beadman said.

“Unfortunately they haven’t drawn too well so it’ll be a case of hoping they get cover and good rides.”

The bookies have Kinshachi ($4.80F) down as Godolphin’s best hope for the day in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic, also over 1350m.

She’ll carry 59kg, but conditions are likely to suit from barrier three.

“It looks like being another heavy track up there on Saturday, she handles that,” Beadman said.
