In the end it came down to the man acting the role out when Racing Victoria not surprisingly anointed Giles Thompson to the long vacant position as its Chief Executive Officer.
Thompson, who started at RV as its Chief Financial Officer in 2015, took over from Bernard Saundry as the interim CEO last December as the supposed world wide search for a full time replacement continued.
Saundry resigned in May last year and recruitment agency Egon Zehnder was entrusted with seeking the best possible replacement.
Saundry had followed from within RV to replace Rob Hines and now Thompson also graduates from within RV to permanently fill the CEO chair.
Names from Andrew Demetriou to other AFL identities like Andrew Dillon, Greg Swan and Brian Cook were listed amongst the possible field of contenders.
Late starters are understood too have been now AFL executive Ray Gunston and Paul Guerra from the Queen Victoria Market but it was on Friday that Mike Hirst, himself an interim chairman at RV, announced Thompson’s confirmation on a permanent basis.
It was Hirst who told G1X.com.au earlier this year that “reinvigorated” search for a new CEO, would see a shortlist finalised by the end of February.
