Race 3, No. 4 ROYAL STATUE
Looks a really nice race for this 4yo son of Statue Of Liberty. Just ran out of runway last time out over the 1500m behind Lucky Roar, gets an extra 100m today and draws beautifully in barrier 2. Loves racing at Ascot (4:3,1,0) and Pike will do the steering, plenty of ticks!
The money suggests that it's ACTION's race to lose, but he won't be getting my money at the $2.10. Beaten easily by his stablemate MISSISSIPPI DELTA last time out yet he'll go around a third of the price, which has me scratching my head. Would of been keen on GATTING, but the barrier draw has not been kind and needed all the favours with the big weight. I've landed on the Victorian visitor KHARTOUM, who is an out and out stayer and Pat Carey is an exceptional trainer of stayers. Rock hard fit now and draws ok to sit right up in the first quarter of the field, at the $14, I'm happy to be having something on.
Race 5, No. 1 REBEL KING
He's certainly the class runner of this field and if he can return anywhere near his best he will give this a shake. Draws perfectly for Mitch Pateman and the 59kg won't be a worry for him as he's carried big weights successfully previously. At the $14 I think he's worth an each way ticket.
Damian Lane loves coming back home and dominating, this season he's come back for the 23 rides at Ascot for 6 winners at 26%. He'll ride Gatting in the Cup, but also has 6 other quality rides on the card.
Race 8, No. 3 ACTION
Bob Peters loves winning his home town cup and the punters think he can do it again with Action. Opened at $3.20, whacked straight into $2.10.
Leg 1: 1,2
Leg 2: 3,5,7,9,13
Leg 3: 1,3,8,10
Leg 4: 1,2,6,9,11,12
$60 gets you 25%
Race 1: 5,4,3,8 (Miss West Coast looks the one to beat, in saying that there are still plenty of unknowns, I'd be letting them go around)
Race 2: 1,3,2,8 (Can't find a reason not to have Angelic Ruler on top, beat the 2nd and 3rd favourites last start comfortably, should do it again)
Race 3: 4,2,3,6 (BEST BET)
Race 4: 6,8,5,1 (Not really a betting affair this, as you can't put a lot of trust in any of them. Mr Alby is racing extremely well and Watch Me Ney Ney is the value runner)
Race 5: 1,3,5,7 (BOLTER)
Race 6: 1,2,4,5 (Really keen on the 1-2 quinella here, Bob Peters has an amazing record in this race and Fontaineblue ran second in this race last year, they should fight it out)
Race 7: 13,5,7,3 (Wide open race, Shackleton is building to a win and draws perfectly. Throw a few in the quaddie though)
Race 8: 8,10,3,1 (See Perth Cup preview above)
Race 9: 6,2,11,12 (Very tough way to finish Cup day, Carocapo and Beat The Devil both look the most likely, both having plenty of upside)
